The mission of Sigma Alpha Epsilon is to promote the highest standards of friendship, scholarship and service for our members based upon the ideals set forth by our Founders and as specifically enunciated in “The True Gentleman.”
The True Gentleman is the man whose conduct proceeds from good will and an acute sense of propriety, and whose self-control is equal to all emergencies; who does not make the poor man conscious of his poverty, the obscure man of his obscurity, or any man of his inferiority or deformity; who is himself humbled if necessity compels him to humble another; who does not flatter wealth, cringe before power, or boast of his own possessions or achievements; who speaks with frankness but always with sincerity and sympathy; whose deed follows his word; who thinks of the rights and feelings of others, rather than his own; and who appears well in any company, a man with whom honor is sacred and virtue safe.
Sigma Alpha Epsilon places great value in giving back to our community, and believes a chapter's success is defined by their impact on the community around them. Our image within the community and university is extremely important to us! Community service is our way of saying thank you to the City of Lawrence and all that it provides for us.
Each semester we work closely with many organizations around Lawrence including the Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence, the Big Event, Jubilee Café, Natural Ties, Salvation Army, and many more. KUs Interfraternal Council requires each of its members to complete 10 hours of service each semester. SAE is proud to say that we recorded an IFC record breaking average of 24.1 hours per member in Fall. We expect a lot from our members and look to them to show the world what it means to be a True Gentleman!
Several times each semester we open our house up to serve as a venue for service events. Many events including philanthropy dinners, blanket drives, Boys and Girls club themed events, and Natural Ties are hosted here.
We often partner with other organizations on campus to give back to the community by sponsoring and coordinating events. This Spring we are hosting the B&GC with a neighbor Sorority for an Easter themed event.
Once members demonstrate their ability to achieve the standards of being a member, they are given the opportunity to be given more responsibility. These responsibilities come in the form of leadership and mold members into leaders for future organizations and better them for their own pursuits.
Sigma Alpha Epsilon members consistently push each other to achieve greatness. With such a supportive atmosphere, it's not surprise that members are so successful both in college and beyond.
