All members of our fraternity are expected to maintain above average levels of achievement in all realms of collegiate life. These standards are the basis of the fraternity's ability to achieve excellence, therefore they are incredibly important to daily life in the house.
In order to be a member of the Kansas Alpha Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, a member must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.7 each semester. ΣΑΕ consistently ranks above the Greek and KU grade point average, ranking at a 3.28 this past year. Tutors are provided and paid for by the house.
All members are required to meet a minimum of 12 hours of community service each semester; some are required more based on their status of membership or their previous semester GPA. It is apparent that all members easily exceed this with a house average of 24.1 hours per member each semester, an all-time KU IFC Record.
We are more than just scholarship and service; in order to have a well-rounded collegiate experience it is expected that each member is a part of at least one other campus organization while a member of ΣΑΕ. Most members are part of more than one campus organization; you will find that many of our members hold leadership positions in their respective organizations.
The current iteration of the house was built in 1997. It is currently one of the newest houses on the KU campus. There are over 25 living rooms for members. We also provide 4 different sleeping dorms.
In the fall of 2012 we voted to go dry and have never looked back. Having a dry chapter facility decreases risk for members and provides a better atmosphere suited towards academic excellence, in addition to making the house one of the cleanest on campus. Our social life continues to thrive by utilizing 3rd party venues.
In addition to successful academics and extreme involvement in community service, it is expected that all members are involved with one other university organization or participate in intramural sports. This aids in the difficult task of getting to know the university's vast number of people, but also teaches members of the value offered by the university outside the classroom and around the vibrant City of Lawrence.
IFC is the governing body for all fraternities on campus. SAE's have held prominent roles on the Interfraternity Council Executive Board for many years and continue to lead today.
One of the most fun ways that members like to get involved within the university is by making intramural teams and competing in university tournaments. This builds communication between members, fosters a healthier culture, and lets members meet teams made of students from everywhere within the University.
Sigma Alpha Epsilon has a long tradition of being a Homecoming powerhouse, winning three times in the past six years. The men of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and women of Alpha Chi Omega are the 2015 Homecoming winners. Our members also won in 2016 with the women of Alpha Delta Pi and the men of Delta Lambda Phi.
